🎃 Conway Is Becoming the City of Halloween!

October is about to get spooky on the Grand Strand!

If you thought Halloween was only one night a year, the folks in Conway, South Carolina would like a word.

Beginning October 1 and continuing all the way through October 31, downtown Conway transforms into the City of Halloween, turning the historic river town into a month-long celebration filled with pumpkins, skeletons, ghosts, special events and plenty of reasons to make the short trip inland from the beach.

And for 2026, they're doing it BIG.

👻 Welcome to the City of Halloween

This marks the fifth official year of Conway's City of Halloween transformation, and some of

the displays returning to town include the Tunnel of Bones, The Great Pumpkin, Elm Street Asylum, Conway Haunted Manor and Kingston Hollow Spooky Maze.

The displays aren't limited to Halloween night, either. They're part of the downtown experience throughout October, making Conway a fun daytime stop or an entirely different adventure after the sun goes down.

Historic buildings, moss-draped trees and the Waccamaw River already give Conway plenty of Southern atmosphere. Add thousands of pumpkins, skeletons and Halloween decorations, and you've got one seriously festive October destination.

🦇 It All Begins With the Big BOO-ginning!

The month officially gets underway Thursday, October 1 at 7 p.m. with The Big BOO-ginning,

featuring a parade, food trucks, live music and a costume contest.

That's only the beginning.

October's calendar also includes events such as Witches Wizards & Wine, the Conway Ghost Walk, the Midnight Market, Fear Factory Haunted Attraction, Halloween river activities and more.

For those who prefer their Halloween fun with running shoes involved, the Halloween Hustle takes place Saturday, October 3, with a 10K, 5K and Monster Mile finishing near Conway's festive Riverwalk.

In other words, Conway isn't decorating for Halloween.

Conway is becoming Halloween.

🎃 Expect Some Crowds

The City of Halloween has become a major attraction. Local officials say they're anticipating 40,000 to 50,000 visitors during October weekends, and Conway has developed a shuttle program and other traffic measures to help handle the crowds.

So if you're planning a visit, especially on a weekend or during one of the major events, give yourself some extra time and check the latest parking, shuttle and road-closure information before heading downtown.

🌴 From Beach Days to Spooky Nights

One of the things we love about fall along the Carolina coast is that you don't have to choose between the beach and Halloween.

Spend the afternoon enjoying the Grand Strand, turn up some Carolina beach music for the ride, and then head over to Conway when the sun starts going down. Suddenly those palm trees give way to glowing pumpkins, skeletons, witches and a downtown that looks like it has been waiting all year for October to arrive.

Honestly, we think that's a pretty great combination.

Sun. Sand. Shaggin'. And a little spooky season thrown in for good measure.
